1. Phishing Emails
Phishing remains one of the most common hacker techniques. Phishing refers to emails pretending to be from legitimate companies in order to trick you into clicking malicious links or attachments. Be wary of any email asking you to update account information or download a form. Always verify the sender’s email address and never click links or open attachments from suspicious emails.
2. SMiShing
SMiShing takes phishing attacks to your smartphone via text message. The scam messages often claim your account needs updating or that a package is on the way. They’ll include a link which leads to a fake site asking for your login credentials or personal information. Avoid clicking any links in texts from unknown numbers.
3. Vishing
Vishing, or voice phishing, uses phone calls to obtain your sensitive data. A fraudster might claim to be from your bank or tech support. They’ll ask you to “confirm” account details or install software, which actually lets them access your system. Hang up on suspicious calls and never give out information to unverified callers.
4. SIM Swapping
SIM swapping is when scammers convince your cell provider to switch your number to a SIM card they control. Once they have your SIM, all calls and texts get routed to them. They can then reset account passwords and access your online accounts. Use unique passwords for each account and enable multi-factor authentication everywhere to prevent unauthorized logins.

Hackers use skimming devices to steal credit card information from ATMs, gas pumps, and other machines. Carefully inspect devices before using your card.
