What We Want from the Rumored Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I have been eagerly awaiting news of a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ever since I finished exploring the vast open world of Hyrule. As a long-time fan of the Zelda series, I have high hopes for what the rumored sequel could bring to the table. Here are the key things I would love to see in a Breath of the Wild sequel:

Bigger Hyrule Map with New Regions

While the map in Breath of the Wild was already massive and filled with diverse biomes, I would love to explore an even bigger Hyrule in the sequel. I hope they add 2-3 brand new regions to the map that bring fresh environments, enemies, cultures, and lore. My dream areas would be a lush jungle filled with ancient ruins, a vast desert with nomadic tribes, or frozen tundra mountains. Expanding the world with new terrains to discover and settlements to find would make the sequel feel like a true journey into uncharted lands.

New Story Focusing on Zelda

Breath of the Wild broke from tradition with a story focused on Link’s adventure rather than Zelda. For the sequel, I want to see the narrative spotlight shifted back onto Princess Zelda and her role following the defeat of Calamity Ganon. Playing as Zelda and seeing Hyrule from her perspective could bring an exciting new take. Her wisdom and magical abilities could also open up fresh gameplay opportunities. I hope the story allows us to connect with Zelda like never before as she leads Hyrule into a new prosperous age.

Additional Playable Characters

While Link is the classic protagonist, I think having multiple playable characters would add diversity to the gameplay. After spending so much time with Zelda in the story, being able to actually play as her would be amazing. I also hope they add Playable Champions like Mipha, Daruk, Urbosa and Revali. Their unique powers and backstories are too good not to experience firsthand. Switching between characters on the fly during the adventure could really change up the combat and puzzles.

Return of Traditional Dungeons

The divine beasts in Breath of the Wild were a cool spin on dungeons, but I missed the epic, multi-floor dungeons of past Zelda games. For the sequel, I hope they bring back 8-10 full-size dungeons oozing with atmosphere. I want to earn items in themed dungeons again like the hookshot or mirror shield. Creative boss fights, tricky puzzles, and hidden secrets made dungeon crawling so satisfying in previous titles. Those classic dungeon experiences deserve a comeback.

Post-Game Content

Breath of the Wild kept me hooked for 200+ hours, but I was bummed when the story ended and there wasn’t much left to do. The sequel needs abundant post-game content to extend the fun. I’d love to see hard mode make enemies deadlier, add a dungeon creator, let you rebuild Hyrule, or simply have many more shrines/seeds to find. Rewarding players who complete the story with exciting new challenges to master would elevate this sequel to an all-time great.

More Enemy Variety

The enemies in Breath of the Wild were nicely designed but grew repetitive after a while when each area had the same monsters reskinned. For the sequel, I want to see double the enemy types covering a wider range of themes. Imagine fighting hungry octoroks in the jungle, sphinxes in the desert, or frozen wizards in the mountains. More diverse enemies would make combat stay exciting across the entirety of my adventure.

Those are the major additions I have my fingers crossed for in a Breath of the Wild sequel. Of course, I also hope they bring back all the best parts of the original like the physics engine, open-ended exploration, and robust cooking system. But building on that strong foundation with bold new ideas could make this one of the greatest games ever. I can’t wait to eventually step back into the vast world of Hyrule once again for a brand new kind of epic journey. The potential for this rumored sequel has my imagination running wild!
