What Can We Expect from Windows 15?

With Windows 11 just released in 2021, most of us are not thinking too far ahead about what Windows 15 may bring. However, as technology continues advancing rapidly, we can make some educated guesses about what Microsoft might include in this future operating system release.

A Completely New User Interface

The Windows user interface has remained fairly consistent over the past several releases. However, by the time we reach Windows 15, we can expect a completely revamped interface.

Microsoft will likely introduce new styles, animations, 3D effects, transparency, and fluidity between apps and windows. The Start Menu and Taskbar especially will probably get dramatic redesigns. Live tiles and widgets may play a bigger role. The OS as a whole will feel more modern and adaptable.

This new interface will take advantage of more powerful future PC hardware. It will also simplify navigation and allow users to concentrate on their work rather than OS management.

Seamless Cross-Device Experiences

Today, Microsoft offers solutions like Your Phone to integrate Android devices with Windows 10 and 11. But with Windows 15, we can expect truly seamless cross-device experiences.

Your desktop, laptop, tablet, phone, etc will all integrate into one computing environment. You’ll be able to start tasks on one device and pick them up instantly on another. Copying and pasting between devices will become effortless. The OS will sync all your apps, settings, and data between devices.

Enhanced Voice and Gesture Controls

Speaking commands to your computer will become much more advanced and reliable in Windows 15. The OS will integrate voice assist technology that can understand natural language and full sentences. You’ll be able to launch apps, search the web, compose emails, and much more just by speaking.

In addition, gesture control will allow you to navigate the OS and apps using in-air hand motions. For example, you may be able to swipe through your open windows by waving your hand.

AI-Powered Applications

By the time Windows 15 releases, AI will be vastly more capable than today. Microsoft will leverage AI throughout the OS to create smarter, more helpful experiences.

For example, apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint may gain new AI-powered features. As you work, these apps will offer intelligent suggestions and auto-complete advanced tasks for you. The OS itself will proactively launch apps you need based on your routine.

Cloud-Powered Experiences

With each new version, Windows relies more on Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure. This integration will reach new levels with Windows 15.

Much of the OS may run directly from the cloud. This means features, apps, and updates will deploy seamlessly without local installations. The cloud will also enable new capabilities like synergized experiences across devices.

Of course, Windows 15 will need to maintain offline functionality for times when an internet connection is not available. But the cloud will augment many parts of the operating system.

Enhanced Security

As cyber threats grow, Microsoft will build even stronger security into Windows 15. New hardware-backed security features will safeguard against malware and other attacks.

The OS may bolster protections for core system files that only the kernel can access. It will warn you of potentially dangerous apps downloaded from the web. AI technology will continuously monitor for suspicious activity and automatically remediate threats.

With Windows 15, you’ll be able to browse, download, and click with much greater confidence that your system remains secure.

What Does the Future Hold?

Windows 15 may still be many years away. But given Microsoft’s steady OS upgrade cycle, we can expect Windows 15 to arrive sometime around 2030 or later. Between now and then, there is plenty of room for innovation that we have not even imagined yet.

One thing we can count on is Microsoft will design Windows 15 to harness new hardware capabilities and next-generation technology trends. It will refine the core Windows experience while introducing new features to enhance productivity and creativity. Windows 15 promises to be the most advanced, intelligent, seamless, and secure consumer PC operating system yet.
