The Top 5 New Features in Chrome OS 75

Google’s Chrome OS continues to evolve with new features and capabilities. Chrome OS 75, released in June 2019, includes several noteworthy improvements for users. In this article, I will highlight the top 5 most exciting new features available in Chrome OS 75.

1. Virtual Desks to Organize Your Workspaces

One of the biggest new features in Chrome OS 75 is virtual desks. This allows you to create multiple desktops to keep your work organized.

With virtual desks, you can separate applications and browser windows into different workspaces. For example, you may want to keep your social media, email, and general web browsing in one workspace and your work documents and productivity apps in another workspace.

To create a new virtual desk, simply go to the app launcher and click the “+” icon at the top right. This allows you to quickly switch between different desktops with just a click or keyboard shortcut. No more cluttered desktop when you’re trying to focus!

2. Resize Picture-in-Picture Windows

The picture-in-picture feature allows you to pop out a video into a small window that stays on top of other windows. This makes it easy to keep watching something while working on other tasks.

Chrome OS 75 takes this a step further by allowing you to resize the picture-in-picture window. You can drag the corners to make the window larger or smaller as needed. This offers more flexibility for watching videos while multitasking.

3. Reorder Browser Tabs

Tab management is much improved in Chrome OS 75. You can now quickly reorder your open browser tabs by simply dragging them left or right. This makes organizing many open tabs much easier.

Chrome OS 75 also lets you group tabs together, highlight tabs, and see previews of tabs by hovering over them. Overall, the browser feels faster and more productive with these tab enhancements.

4. Improved Laptop Support

Chrome OS continues to improve the experience when using a laptop. The virtual desks feature highlighted above works seamlessly when using a trackpad to switch workspaces.

Chrome OS 75 also improves trackpad gestures. You can now use three-finger swipes to quickly switch between web pages and apps. There are also new trackpad gestures for accessing the shelf and your workplace.

These improvements make Chromebooks feel more responsive and natural to use as laptops.

5. Files App Integration

The Files app in Chrome OS now has much deeper integration across the operating system. From within the Files app, you can now easily open images, PDFs, and other documents in Chrome apps.

For example, you can open an image in the photo editor or a PDF in Google Keep. Files also connects to storage services like Google Drive, Dropbox, and more.

This tight integration makes file management much more intuitive. You no longer have to download files and open them separately in another app.

Ready for the Latest Chrome OS Capabilities

The latest version of Chrome OS allows you to multitask and stay organized through virtual desks, easily manage tabs and windows, and enjoy quality of life improvements like resizeable picture-in-picture.

With Chrome OS 75, Google continues to add features that make Chromebooks powerful yet simple productivity tools. The enhancements highlighted in this article demonstrate how Chrome OS keeps getting better for users.
