The Most Promising New Games Showcased at E3 2024
I attended E3 2024 this year and was blown away by the exciting new games that were showcased. As a lifelong gamer and industry expert, I wanted to share my thoughts on some of the most promising titles that caught my attention.
H1. Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is the highly anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. Guerrilla Games once again takes players to a jaw-droppingly beautiful post-apocalyptic world filled with strange mechanical creatures. I was amazed by the new locations like the flooded coasts of San Francisco and towering redwood forests. The graphics look incredibly lifelike and detailed. New underwater exploration allows for expanded gameplay. The story follows Aloy as she journeys west to solve a mysterious blight plaguing the land. Fighting giant robot dinosaurs with an improved arsenal of weapons and gadgets looks as thrilling as ever. This is easily one of my most anticipated games of next year.
H2. Starfield
As a massive sci-fi fan, Starfield really excited me. This is Bethesda Game Studios’ first new universe in 25 years. You play as a space explorer in the year 2310 journeying through the Milky Way galaxy. With over 1,000 planets to visit, this promises to be Bethesda’s biggest game ever. The gameplay footage showed stunning cosmic vistas and a vast open world to discover. You can customize your character, spaceship, and crew. The core gameplay loop involves exploring, building out settlements, and joining factions. Bethesda says Starfield will have their signature grand stories and freedom of choice. This has the potential to be the definitive sci-fi RPG.
H3. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Insomniac Games wowed us with 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, so the sequel is hotly anticipated. The short teaser trailer revealed both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as playable characters. It also hinted that Venom will be the villain. The combat and web-slinging looked as slick and fluid as ever. While details are scarce, it’s safe to assume Spider-Man 2 will build on everything that made the original so spectacular. Playing as two fan favorite Spider-heroes in an open-world Manhattan should make for an action-packed adventure. This is web-swinging fun on the PS5 for Spidey fans.
H4. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
No game franchise elicits more excitement than The Legend of Zelda. Breath of the Wild reinvented the series in 2017 with a massive open world. The sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, looks to expand on that formula. The trailer shows Hyrule turned skyward, with islands of land floating among the clouds. Link can be seen utilizing new powers and a glider to explore the world above. Story details are vague but Ganon appears to be the antagonist once more. I can’t wait to discover all the new regions, abilities, and characters. Nintendo has set the bar high, but Link rarely disappoints. This could be one of the best Zelda adventures ever.
H5. Hogwarts Legacy
Every Harry Potter fan has dreamed of attending Hogwarts. Hogwarts Legacy finally lets us experience life as a student at the famous school of witchcraft and wizardry. Developed by Avalanche Software, this ambitious RPG is set in the 1800s wizarding world. The trailers showcase spellcasting, brewing potions, taming fantastic beasts, exploring the castle and grounds, and attending classes like Defense Against the Dark Arts. As an original story, this is our chance to forge our own path. Roleplaying a student in the rich world of Harry Potter sounds magical. I’ll be first in line to play this long-awaited game.
H6. Final Thoughts
E3 2024 previewed an incredible lineup of games. After years of delays due to COVID-19, developers are ready to release truly next-gen experiences. Sequels like Horizon and Spider-Man will build upon solid foundations while Starfield and Hogwarts represent new frontiers. And you can never count out Nintendo and The Legend of Zelda. I left E3 more excited than ever about the future of video games. The next couple years promise to be truly groundbreaking and memorable. I can’t wait to dive into these immersive virtual worlds!
