The Best New PC Games Releasing This Year

As a dedicated PC gamer, I’m always excited to see what new games are releasing each year. 2022 is shaping up to be an incredible year for PC gaming, with highly anticipated sequels, exciting new IPs, and fresh takes on classic genres. In this article, I’ll highlight some of the PC games I’m most looking forward to playing this year and why they have me thrilled.

Hogwarts Legacy

Release Date: Holiday 2022

As a huge Harry Potter fan, Hogwarts Legacy is easily one of my most anticipated games this year. This open-world action RPG is set in the late 1800s Wizarding World and will allow me to experience life as a Hogwarts student like never before. I’ll be able to freely explore the iconic castle, tame magical beasts, master spells, brew potions, and fully immerse myself in the rich lore of the franchise. The ability to create my own unique wizard and forge my own path through an all-new story at Hogwarts has me incredibly excited.

Starfield

Release Date: First Half of 2022

As a fan of Bethesda’s previous open-world RPGs like Skyrim and Fallout 4, I’m highly anticipating Starfield. This space-themed role-playing game is Bethesda’s first new IP in 25 years. I’m thrilled by the prospect of seamlessly traveling between planets and customizing my own spaceship. With over 1,000 planets to explore, this ambitious game promises to offer unprecedented freedom and scope. I can’t wait to get lost in the mysteries of outer space that this long-awaited title has in store.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Release Date: TBA 2022

The original Hollow Knight stands as one of my all-time favorite Metroidvania games, so I’m incredibly hyped for the sequel, Silksong. This time, I’ll take control of the nimble Hornet in the vast kingdom of Pharloom. With 150 new foes, intriguing lore, tight platforming, and fresh combat mechanics, Silksong looks to build on everything I loved about the first game. The hand-crafted world and haunting music already have me hooked. I can’t wait to master new moves and take down colossal bosses when this finally releases.

Company of Heroes 3

Release Date: 2022

As a long-time fan of real-time strategy games, I’m extremely excited for Company of Heroes 3. This World War 2-themed RTS will take the meticulous battle tactics and dynamic environments of the franchise to the next level. The new Total War-esque campaign mode looks incredibly ambitious. I love having the freedom to make widespread strategic decisions while also commanding soldiers in tactical skirmishes. With four distinct factions, dynamic weather, and destructible environments, I expect Company of Heroes 3 to deliver thrilling, cinematic warfare.

Redfall

Release Date: Summer 2022

Redfall promises to provide an exciting co-op twist on the FPS genre as I team up with friends to take down vicious vampires. Being able to choose from a diverse roster of heroes with unique abilities will add replayability and allow me to find a playstyle I love. I’m interested in the open-world setting of Redfall and taking back the island from the vampire scourge anyway I see fit. With elements of action, exploration, and horror, Redfall seems primed to deliver hectic first-person gameplay in a refreshing direction.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl

Release Date: December 2022

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R series is known for its tense, unforgiving take on survival simulators. I’m beyond excited to see it realized with modern graphics in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is hauntingly recreated down to the smallest details. The A.I promises unpredictable encounters with murderous factions. I love that artifacts grant unique abilities, forcing strategic decisions. Anomalies and radiation hot zones will force cautious exploration of the eerie landscape. With its gritty Eastern European aesthetic and ruthless gameplay, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 looks to deliver an immersive survival experience.

2022 is set to be a groundbreaking year for PC gaming. These are just a few of the heavy hitters that have me clearing my schedule. With incredible sequels expanding on franchises I love and bold new IPs bringing fresh ideas to the table, I don’t know if my wallet or free time can handle all these amazing games! I’m most excited for deep Role Playing Games I can immerse myself in, but competitive multiplayer titles also have appealing additions on the horizon. One thing is certain – with this stacked lineup, my library of unplayed games is sure to expand rapidly in 2022!
