Got Game? Check Out the Top VR Games of 2024
Virtual reality (VR) gaming has come a long way in the past few years. As someone who loves video games, I’m excited to share my picks for the top VR games of 2024. From action-packed shooters to magical adventures, these games truly immerse you in their stunning virtual worlds.
Population: One
Population: One is a battle royale shooter that really shows off the potential of VR gaming. Up to 24 players battle it out in a massive map. I can run, climb, fly with a hang glider, and shoot an arsenal of wacky weapons. The visuals are crisp and the gameplay is fast-paced. This is the closest I’ve felt to actually being inside a shooter game. The social experience is fun too – I’ve made some friends thanks to the proximity voice chat. If you want thrilling VR combat, Population: One is a must-play.
Half-Life: Alyx
As a huge fan of the Half-Life series, I was thrilled when Half-Life: Alyx was released. This new prequel is set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. I play as Alyx Vance as she fights against the alien Combine invasion. The immersive VR environments, innovative gravity gloves, and horrifying zombie headcrabs make this feel like I’m actually living in the Half-Life universe. The attention to detail is amazing – I can interact with so many objects. If you want a AAA story-driven VR experience, Half-Life: Alyx is arguably the best choice.
Beat Saber
Beat Saber is a rhythm game that makes me feel like a Jedi warrior. As electronic dance music plays, I use two lightsabers to slash through flying cubes to the beat. It starts out simple but quickly gets challenging. I have to duck and dodge obstacles while keeping up with the music. With a ton of awesome songs to choose from and modifiers to increase the difficulty, Beat Saber has kept me coming back to improve my scores. It’s an addictive workout too! If you want a fun VR music game, Beat Saber is a must-own.
Superhot VR
Superhot VR reinvents first-person shooter gameplay in a unique way. Time moves only when I move my body. This gives me time to plan my moves and take out each enemy. I have to carefully grab weapons and dodge attacks using full range of motion. Headshots feel so satisfying in slow motion. The minimalist art style looks fantastic in VR. With short replayable levels andchallenges, Superhot VR always feels fresh. If you want revolutionary VR gameplay, Superhot nails it.
Vacation Simulator
Sometimes I just want a relaxing VR experience. Vacation Simulator lets me enjoy a silly virtual vacation as a robot. I can explore beautiful beaches, hike through forests, or hang out in a campground. There are fun minigames like building sandcastles, roasting marshmallows, and playing beach ball. I especially love reacting with all the humorous items I find. With colorful environments and hilarious robot humor, Vacation Simulator is a great choice for casual fun in VR.
After the Fall
For co-op action in VR, I recommend After the Fall. Set in an icy post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, I team up with friends to battle huge frozen creatures. We each take on roles like a healer, tank, or damage dealer. The various weapons feel great to fire in VR. Working together and coming up with strategies against epic monster bosses is a blast. With lots of missions, items to find, and heroes to unlock, After the Fall is one multiplayer VR game I keep coming back to.
Demeo
For a different style of co-op, I suggest trying the tabletop RPG Demeo. This allows me to gather around a virtual table with friends and play procedurally generated dungeon crawling adventures. I can pick classes like warrior and mage, equip gear, and battle monsters. The diorama-like environments are beautiful in VR and the turn-based combat is simple but engaging. With customizable rulesets and regular free updates adding new content, Demeo is my favorite way to play tabletop RPGs inside of VR.
VR gaming has never been better than it is right now in 2024. With amazing games across genres like shooters, adventures, music, relaxation, co-op, and tabletop RPGs, there are so many ways to have fun in virtual worlds. These are just some of my personal top picks – there are many more fantastic VR experiences out there waiting. So put on your headset and jump into these incredible games!
