Google is forming an Android security team to find bugs in sensitive apps

In a quote to quash vulnerabilities in delicate apps on the Google Play Store, Google is supposedly developing a brand-new Android security group. The business just recently posted a brand-new task listing for a Security Engineering Supervisor, who will be accountable for forming a team to conduct security evaluations of “ extremely sensitive, third-celebration Android apps on Google Play”. According to a recent report on the matter, the brand-new Android security team will focus on apps like the COVID-19 contact tracing app and election-related apps that deal with sensitive user information.

The job listing, even more, exposes that the new Android security team will not just work to discover vulnerabilities in delicate apps but also offer removal guidance to impacted application developers. Additionally, the team will be accountable for dealing with other Android security groups “ to find new and innovative methods to lower the incident of Android application vulnerabilities at scale.”

We reached out to a Google spokesperson for comment, who validated that the job listing was indeed for a new group that would be accountable for continuing the work done by the Android Security Improvement and Google Play Security Benefits program. Because the Google Play Security Rewards program is limited to apps that have more than 100 million users, the decision to bring in a new group to handle sensitive apps that aren’t covered by the program is certainly an excellent relocation.
