First time with iOS? Be sure to check out these apps from the App Store

Have you bought or got an iPhone for Christmas? Never had a smartphone with iOS before? Check out the best and most useful applications you can find in the App Store.

Currently, on the market, we find smartphones with two operating systems. Of course, we are talking about Android, which is available on most devices, and Apple’s proprietary software – iOS, which is pre-installed on iPhone smartphones. Both systems, although they offer similar functions, look and work completely different.

If this is the first time you’ve bought an iPhone, you’ll be surprised by the extremely simple interface and the little personalisation possibilities. You also certainly wanted to download the popular apps you used on Android. At this very moment you probably found out that instead of the Play Store, the iPhone offers its own app shop – the App Store.

The App Store debuted on the market in July 2008 – a few months before the Play Store, then known as Android Market. It allows installing applications and games for iPhone and iPad. The App Store offers a lot of free and paid applications.

In this material, we show which apps from the App Store are worth downloading to the iPhone.

1. Facebook Messenger

We start with one of the most popular programmes without which we can no longer imagine communicating with friends. The Messenger for iPhone looks and works a bit different from its counterpart for Android. In the iPhone version, you will not find the extremely popular bubbles that allow you to run Messenger anywhere in the user interface.

Messenger is a great alternative to the iMessage communicator built into the iPhone. In addition, you do not need a Facebook account to use Messenger.

The application is free of charge.

2 Gmail

If you had an Android smartphone before your iPhone, it is very likely that you are using a Gmail account. If this is the case, be careful. The built-in iOS email application has Gmail support but cannot download messages in real-time.

This is why we recommend installing Gmail from the App Store. This application works much better than iOS-enabled mail.

The application is free.

3 Microsoft Teams

Nowadays, Microsoft Teams has become extremely important. This service is used for distance learning and business video conferencing. We can easily download a mobile application to the iPhone, which has all the most important functions known from PCs.

Thanks to Teams for iPhone we can easily participate in meetings even while moving around. Additionally, Microsoft Teams enables smooth switching between the application on the PC and the phone.

The application is free of charge.

4. Netflix

Netflix could not be missing from our list. The client application on iOS allows you to watch your favourite films and series. Nothing stands in the way of downloading selected titles to the device’s memory and watching them even without access to the Internet.

The application is free but requires a subscription.

5 Youtube

If you choose the iPhone, you do not need to use YouTube in your web browser. In the App Store, you will find a dedicated application that offers a variety of features such as dark mode and support for premium accounts that do not display ads. This program used to be pre-installed by default on every iOS device, but you have had to download it yourself for several years.

The application is free.

6 Spotify

Apple has its own music streaming service. We are obviously talking about Apple Music, but a much better and more universal solution is Spotify. The iPhone app offers access to an enormous music library and podcasts. In addition, nothing stands in the way of downloading songs to the device storage. A great feature is also a timer that lets you sleep to the accompaniment of your favourite songs or podcasts.

The application is free of charge. You need a paid subscription to get the most out of it.

7 Google Maps

Google Maps is a great alternative to Maps embedded in iOS. The solution provided by the search engine giant is much more accurate and has better terrain mapping in our country. Not without significance is great integration with public transport systems in the largest cities. Additionally, nothing stands in the way of logging in through your Google account and conveniently sending directions from your computer to your phone. Google maps also allow you to download a map slice to the mass memory of your device.

8 The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel is one of the most accurate meteorological applications for the iPhone. It offers a huge range of features and an iOS 14-compatible widget. The program shows air pollution, precipitation forecast and weather maps.

10 Feedly

Feedly is an extensive and intelligent RSS reader that has been consulted for years by the world’s largest technology editors. It is one of the most interesting applications for viewing information from your favourite websites. This is also reflected in the high rating of 4.7/5 out of over a thousand ratings in the App Store.

The programme offers a night mode, a built-in reader, a clear list of the latest applications and provides recommended sites to watch.

11. NordVPN

Internet providers are able to collect increasing amounts of data from month to month. No Internet user certainly does not want their browsing history data to go online. That is why it is worth using a VPN. For iPhone users, we recommend the NordVPN service, which has one of the most sophisticated applications on iOS. Thanks to NordVPN, we can safely browse the Internet using public Wi-Fi networks without fear of infringing our privacy.

12. Gboard

iOS has a built-in keyboard with autocorrection. Internet users who are changing from Android will certainly not be able to write by dragging. Fortunately, nothing stands in the way of installing the GBoard application, which enables this option. Additionally, we will be able to personalise the keyboard for our own needs and access the Google search engine from virtually anywhere in the iOS interface.

13 Google photos

Most owners of Android smartphones keep their photos in the Google Photos service. This is also available on the iPhone. Once you download the app from the App Store and sign in to our Google Account, you will have access to your photos. Google Photos is also a great program for an automatic backup of our photos and recordings in the cloud. The whole process takes place automatically after connecting the iPhone to power and Wi-Fi network.

14. Squid

Squid is an application that allows you to access the latest news from the country and the areas of life we are interested in. The program works like an RSS news aggregator but does not allow you to add your own sources. The application is encouraged to use an extremely attractive graphic interface and a built-in web browser that allows you to read content directly in the application.

The application is free of charge.

15. Google

The Google iPhone application is nothing more than a web search engine integrated with a newsreader. Additionally, after installing Google on our iPhone, we can use the photo search.

The programme will also appeal to sports fans. All thanks to the possibility of tracking results in real-time.

The application is free of charge.

16. Google Chrome

Have you got used to Google Chrome and don’t want to transfer your data to Safari? You do not have to do that. In the App Store, you will find Google Chrome on iOS. When you sign in with your Google Account, you can access your bookmarks and your browsing history.

Chrome for iPhone has a slightly modified user interface. The browser will also transfer all the passwords that we have saved on your computer.

The application is free.

17. Documents, Worksheets, Google Presentations

Docs, Worksheets and Google Presentations are three applications that are part of the Google Docs office suite. They allow you to access our text files, worksheets and presentations directly from your iPhone.

It does not prevent you from viewing, modifying and creating new documents in real-time, which are automatically synchronised with our Google Account. Mobile applications on iOS have the full functionality known from the PC and Mac versions. They also offer the ability to cooperate in real-time.

The applications are free of charge.

18. Facebook

The Facebook application is a total must-have for most users, which is installed right after the initial configuration of the device. It could not be missing from our list either. Facebook on iOS looks almost identical to the Android app. In the program, you will find not only a board with our friends’ entries but also local Marketplace advertisements and even a dating service.

The application is free of charge.

19. Instagram

Instagram is another Facebook application that has been added to our list. It is the best social networking site for publishing photos on the web. Interestingly, the mobile application has more features than the PC and Mac versions.

The application is free.

20 Uber Eats

We left Uber Eats at the end. This program will allow you to order food from a huge number of restaurants directly to our house. What is important is that with the use of Uber Eats we can order food with a personal collection. We will then take advantage of promotions that are not normally available in the restaurant.

The application is free of charge.
